The Business

Goodone is an award winning, sustainable fashion design company. Based in London, Goodone produces unique collections of women’s apparel and accessories made from recycled materials.

In addition to its own collections, Goodone has recently taken part in a range of collaborations with six of the country’s leading charities’—Amnesty International, Greenpeace, WWF, Shelter, Liberty and No Sweat. Using the charities’ old campaign t-shirts, Goodone is producing limited edition garments that keep in line with the brands contemporary style of producing recreated fashions from recycled fabric.

Goodone also works with the HEBA Women’s project in east London to manufacture its garments. This connection not only tackles common production challenges but also promotes local manufacturing of garments.

“Goodone is a perfect marriage between my love of fashion and the frivolous and my very practical attitude to design. Here, I can produce really sexy clothes that still serve a greater purpose, allowing myself and my customer to feel great about looking hot” —Nin Castle

The History

Castle’s interest in ethical fashion began while studying for her undergraduate degree in Fashion Design and Business at Brighton University. In the final year of her degree she undertook the creation of a collection produced entirely from organic and recycled materials. Castle went on to realise the amount of good quality clothes that are thrown away daily, this led to the concept of creating new clothes from recycled fabrics.

Goodone was launched in 2005 when Nin Castle and business partner Phoebe Emmerson began working together in their Brighton studio. Developed with a strong interest in instigating positive change in the fashion industry, Goodone strives to design innovative clothing, which bridges the gap between good design and good ethics. A year after the company’s launch, the business relocated to London. The brand continues to grow and expand through its own online retail and a variety of other UK retail outlets.

The Mission

Goodone design and produce innovative, quality, one-off clothing, which is made from handpicked, locally sourced, recycled fabrics. The brand aims to be only environmentally friendly whilst having a positive impact on society though all our work

We aim to exceed peoples’ expectations of what recycled clothing can be by creating garments, which don’t look obviously recycled. Instead of ‘reworking’ or ‘customising’ existing pieces we design for production. By using these recycled materials we are not only providing a creative and sustainable solution for waste reduction but also minimising energy use and the damage to environment caused by the production of new clothing. .

The goal of all the brands efforts is to minimise the amount of clothing waste that ends up in landfills. Using our specialist knowledge in the deconstruction and reconstruction of garments, sustainable sourcing and production we are able to create a limitless amount of new clothing from old, which, dependent on the combination of coloured, patterned and textured fabrics chosen, will inherently always remain unique. This means we are able to mass-produce the one-off.

The future

The future plans for Goodone demonstrate the diversity and flexibility of the team.

We aim to create a reputable brand, which is internationally recognised for pioneering the production of high-quality, innovative ‘recreated’ clothing, meeting the standards consumers would expect from any mainstream fashion label.

We aim to provide specialist consultancy service, working with, instead of against, existing brands and retailers to solve their own waste issues, consequently impacting the industry on a bigger scale.

We aim to educate the next generation of fashion designers, entrepreneurs and consumers on the urgency and methods for designing, producing and consuming sustainably.
